UP Police Arrest Four PFI Members For Posts About 'Bhumi Pujan' On Social Media

LUCKNOW, AUGUST 7— Uttar Pradesh police have arrested four persons on allegations of spreading provocative messages with regard to ‘bhumi pujan’ of the Ram Temple on social media.


All of the them are said to be linked with Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).


While of the accused was arrested from Lucknow, the remaining three were arrested from Bahraich, a district town bordering Nepal.


The one arrested from Lucknow has been identified as Abul Majeed, media in-charge of PFI. He was arrested last evening from a rented house in Mahipatmau locality under Kakori Police Station in Lucknow city. The police said that Abdul Majeed was posting communally provocative messages on social media. According to police, Abdul Majeed is native of Ramnagar in Shahdara, East Delhi.


Police Inspector of Kakori Police Station Pramednra Singh told mediapersons that Abdul Majeed was running campaign on social with #ReturnBabriLandToMuslims and #ReturnArticle370. Singh said that Abdul Majeed is also connected with Islamic Front of India and All India Imam Council. The police, he said, are looking for his associates in Lucknow and other places in UP.


Among those arrested in Bahraich have been identified as Dr. Aleem, Qamruddin and Sahib-e-Alam.


Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kunwar Gyananjay told mediapersons that they were tweeting messages with regard to the ‘Bhumi Pujan’for Ram Temple at Ayodhya while sitting in the clinic of Dr. Aleem.


Gyananjay said that the messages were quite provocative and harmful to communal harmony and brotherhood. Police arrested them after receiving information from its own sources.


ASP said that Sahib-e-Alam is a former office-bearer of PFI and currently working as media in-charge of SDPI, Dr. Aleem and Qamruddin are members of SDPI Whatsapp group.


He said that a detailed investigation was being conducted with regard to all the three.
