New Delhi, Feb 22: Civil rights activists held a protest demonstration outside the Chhattisgarh Bhawan here on Monday against the attack on tribal activist Soni Sori. Sori was attacked with acid-like chemical by some unidentified persons in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
Addressing the protesters senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan lashed out at the Chhattisgarh government of BJP for the attack.
"It is a shameful matter for the entire country that such an atmosphere is being created in Chhattisgarh. Today we are seeing such kinds of atmosphere even in Delhi. Police and the central government are creating a kind of terror in JNU. The more terrible scene is being created in Chhattisgarh against the activists like Soni Sori who are only fighting for the human rights. It seems like there is no law ruling there. There is only fascist rule," he said.
Accusing the Chhattisgarh police and the state government, Kavita Shrivastava, Rajasthan president of People's Union for Civil Liberties, demanded registration of an FIR against the Bastar police chief.
"A case should be filed against the police. We will not tolerate attack on Soni Sori. We will have to fight it," she said.
Social activist Ovais Sultan Khan also blamed the state government.
"It is directly state-planed violence against Soni Sori. The government must be accountable before the court regarding it," he said.
Soni Sori had unsuccessfully contested the last Lok Sabha elections on the ticket of Aam Aadmi Party.
