PM himself politicizing Triple Talaq: Muslim umbrella body chief
New Delhi, April 29: Responding to the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Muslims should not politicize the issue of Triple Talaq, All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat (AIMMM), the umbrella body of major Indian Muslim organizations, said that PM himself is politicizing the issue.
"Prime Minister himself is doing politics when he again and again mentions the issue of Triple Talaq," said Navaid Hamid, national president of AIMMM.
Speaking on the occasion of Basava Jayanti here this afternoon, PM Modi had said: "I urge the people of Muslim community to not politicise the issue of triple talaq." "I request them to come forward and find a solution," the PM had further said.
Hamid alleged that PM's remarks on triple talaq do not show his true concerns for Muslim women.
"It has more taunting connotations than the concerns of the plight of the Muslim women," said Hamid.
"Mr. Prime Minister, please stop politicizing and stop creating kind of hatred for the Muslim community in the country..." he added.
He, however, hailed the PM for publicly admitting that it is an internal issue of the Muslim community and they themselves resolve it.
"It is good that Prime Minister understood that it is for the community to reform the shortcomings of the family laws," said Hamid.
Also at BJP's National Executive meeting in Bhubaneswar earlier this month, PM Modi had raised the issue of Triple Talaq.
While launching its nationwide Muslim Personal Law Awareness Campaign last week, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind had also asked political parties not to politicize the issue of Triple Talaq.
