Gujarat cow slaughter law will lead to more Una, Dadri incidents: Dalit leader
IndiaTomorrow.net,
Ahmedabad, April 1: Gujarat Dalit youth icon Jignesh Mevani is apprehensive of more beef lynching incidents in the state following the new harsher cow slaughter law brought by the state BJP government.
"Life imprisonment for 'gau-hatya' in Gujarat", one will be awarded life sentence for killing a cow, tweeted Mevani today. The Gujarat assembly on Friday made its anti-cow slaughter law the toughest in the country with the offence now becoming non-bailable and punishable with a life-time in jail.
Mevani said the new law may give "free hand to cow vigilantes. More Una, more Dadari, more communal polarization. gau-matadi jai." There could more beef related incidents now like ones in Una of Gujarat and Dadri of Uttar Pradesh, both last year.
