New Delhi, June 25— “There should be no more such incidents and crimes which are taking place and every one should live peacefully in this country”, said badly-wounded Maulana Mohammad Momin while talking to India Tomorrow at his home in North West Delhi on Monday.

His house was full of visitors, well-wishers and friends. Local leaders and community members are visiting his house continuously. Even five days after the horrific incident, Momin was not comfortable enough to talk long.

The incident took place last Thursday evening (June 20) around 6:45 PM. Momin said that he was asked to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by three men aged around 30-35 years. When he refused to do so, they hit him with the car they were travelling in and ran away.

Recalling the incident Momin said, “I was returning home from the nearby mosque around 6:45 PM. Three persons met me on the way. They were in a white car. They asked me to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’. I refused to do so moved forward on my way. They hit me with the side of the car and ran away. I fell down on the road and became unconscious. People rushed to help me. They made a call to the police. Then I was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where I got medical aid”.

He was discharged on the same day but he needs to go to hospital on almost daily basis. According to him, doctors have assured him that he would be fine within a few days. Even after four days of the incident, he has injuries in his arms, head, face and lower part of body – this all shows the impact of the car hit.

Mohammad Momin has filed a police complaint and an FIR has been registered.

He hails from Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh. He is living in Delhi for last several years. He teaches at a madrasa situated in Noori Masjid in Rohini Sector 20 of North West Delhi.

In the last one week, several similar incidents have occurred in different parts of the country. In some cases, videos of the incidents have gone viral on social media.

In a gruesome case, a Muslim youth was assaulted by a mob in Jharkhand last week on suspicion of theft. In the video, the goons are forcing him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Jai Hanuman’. Even he was repeating the chants, they attackers continued beating him for whole night. Next day, police arrested him on a theft complaint and sent him to jail after first aid. He had got internal injuries due to brutal assault. His condition deteriorated in the jail on June 22 and he was taken to hospital where he died on the same day. After huge media and political uproar, the Jharkhand government has suspended some police officials and 11 of the attackers have been arrested.
